Biomolecular/Materials Research Annex – ABB West Wing Addition
Project Overview
This five-storey addition and Mechanical Penthouse to the Arthur Bournes Building houses the largest Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility on the McMaster Campus. The custom-made laboratory facilities in this project feature state-of-the-art mechanical and air handling systems to service the fumehoods and ventilation requirements of the researchers.

- New construction to the existing Arthur Bournes Building totaling 30,700 square feet.
- Containing 4 floors of new research labs and a designated area on the 1st floor to house the largest NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Magnet on McMaster Campus.
- Major construction components included poured concrete foundation, structural steel frame, precast concrete exterior wall panels and aluminum curtain wall and glazing.
- Modular steel frame lab furniture offers the users flexibility to revise lab layouts in the future to accommodate different types of research projects.
