IPG Quiet Labs
Project Overview
This 7,000 sq. ft. addition to the RAC II Building at the University of Waterloo’s north campus Research Park — the heart of “Quantum Valley” — delivers one of the quietest laboratory environments in North America. Designed for advanced quantum research, the facility exceeds VC-G vibration standards, supporting precise experimentation in Quantum Computing and Quantum Sensing.
Construction: Specialized addition to an active research facility, designed and built for ultra-low vibration, acoustic, and electromagnetic interference
Laboratory Features: Four measurement labs with isolated concrete plinths, non-metallic structural components (aluminum panels, wood composites, GFRP reinforcing), and highly controlled temperature and acoustic environments
Systems and Performance: Custom mechanical and electrical systems for sensitive research equipment; vibration control achieving <90 nm/s displacement — far surpassing design criteria
Location: Waterloo, Ontario
Client: Infinite Potential Group
